Filters
Water filters improve the taste, smell and appearance of drinking and can remove some chemical substances. Filters are inexpensive and easily available as a method for purifying water. Note however that water filters are not 100 per cent. Filters are labelled for their purpose, such as removing chlorine or lead. There are many models and combinations of filters and it’s important to research the proper filter for your needs. We provide free consultation if you need a professional opinion.
Softeners
Resin filters are a type of soft water treatment that can remove contaminants such as lead and other heavy metals, as well as minerals that cause deposits in kettles and coffee makers. These contaminants have an electrical charge and are removed by attaching to an opposite charge found in the resin. Resin filters can be combined with activated carbon filters to remove a wide range of particles and dissolved substances.
Well vs utility water
Municipal water supplied to your home is treated to meet health requirements and it is likely that you do not need a water filter. It is also routinely tested. If your water supply comes from a private well it is subject to potential microbiological, chemical, or other types of contamination. It is important to test well water periodically.
